Weekend in Review
I am feeling a bit excited coming off the weekend, so I figured Id share my reflections and thoughts with everyone!
- THE GEEKS really a rad band. These guys were great to play shows with. Seeing them play really changed my perspective on HC right now. This isnt just something that is meaningful for me and my friends, or even just kids in the United States it REALLY IS something that kids all around the world are having a chance to experience and define for themselves. That might sounds like some clich unity song but I really felt that after talking with THE GEEKS that they are doing something very courageous for their culture where things like playing in a band, or ideas like straight edge are pretty much alien and unacceptable. So check out THE GEEKS if they are playing a town near you on this tour.
- THE DEAD HEARTS another band to definitely check out. We got to play with them at Gilman St. a few months back and it was really good to see some old friends and meet some new guys. They have a bit of a modern HC sound which some people describe as sounding like THE SUICIDE FILE, but I just think they are a pretty original band by their own right. Anyways, it was really neat to catch them in Buffalo and see them play to a strong hometown crowd. (Btw. Buffalo had a really cool scene I thought). I wish we could have caught all of their set but we were running late to make it to our 2nd Saturday show.
- FULTON NY this is the 2nd time we have played there. Its near by Syracuse and kinda has its own nice little scene. Every time we play there the kids are really nice and energetic. The band ANOTHER BREATH is from there and you should check them out as well they seemed to really put themselves into their songs and live show (they said some really neat things I thought). But check out Fulton!
- ECHO BASE Studios On Sunday we returned to Buffalo to record a new song. Bill was cool enough to let us record for free, but we had never practiced the song really we just had a rough home recording I had done, and a lyrical skeleton! Steves voice was shot after playing 3 shows in two days and riding in the freezing van but we basically wrote and practiced the song over the weekend and recorded it in about 1.5 hour! It turned out really good though considering its a first shot! We will probably eventually redo it when we are tighter though. Its going to be up soon on the Echo Base Studios Website well post a link!
- A big thank you to all the promoters who put on some awesome shows and the folks that stuck around to see us. Thanks to Crucial John for making the trip up for the whole weekend!
